Apply to the Dutchess No Child Left Inside Program

Interested in applying to the program?

We are currently accepting applications. Accepted youth are expected to commit to the program through June of 2025 with the option to continue with the program through their high school years.

Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County’s No Child Left Inside (NCLI) Program typically hires Youth Environmental Educators in the spring, but it’s never too soon to submit your application. Occasionally, we are able to hire new youth mid-season and if we have your application on hand, we can reach out to you once positions are available. Those who apply to this program should be prepared to make a year long commitment to the program, and will earn hourly wages for their participation.

Who can apply?

Young adults ages 14-19 who live in the City of Poughkeepsie, NY.

What will I do?

Work part time, mostly after-school and sometimes on weekends, from June through the summer and school year. Youth leaders will sign a 1 year agreement.

  • Commit to working approximately 5 - 10 hours per week on environmental projects and activities throughout the year and get paid minimum wage. After the initial paperwork is completed and processed, employees will be paid every two weeks.

  • Learn by developing a environmental service project with other NCLI Youth Environmental Educators for your school or community.

  • Travel to natural areas in the Hudson River Valley with educators and scientists from Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County (CCEDC), and partners such as the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Vassar College, Cornell University, and others; work with these scientists to develop knowledge of the ecosystems in these areas;

  • Learn and develop valuable personal leadership skills and technical environmental skills;

  • Work with curriculum specialists from CCEDC and others to implement lessons to teach younger youth about the environment and encourage them to get outdoors.

  • Be trained by staff and volunteers from Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County, the Adirondack Mountain Club, and various other organizations, in outdoor activities and skills including canoeing, kayaking, hiking, camping, and others – and at the same time, learn about the environment and natural areas that we need to protect.

  • This is a personal development program as well as a job, so come with an open mind!

  • Work meetings are held at various locations in Poughkeepsie and Millbrook. Transportation is provided with pick-up typically at Poughkeepsie High School and drop-off at the Youth Educator’s home.
