Macroinvertebrates

Macro – what??? Macroinvertebrates are animals that have no backbone and can be seen with the naked eye. They are found in streams and can help indicate whether or not the stream is healthy. Dr. Dave Strayer, a freshwater ecologist at the Cary Institute, is an expert on macroinvertebrates and tells us many interesting facts in this podcast.

 Water Quality

Water is something that every living organism needs but have you ever heard of the term water quality? Water quality is a measure of water’s characteristics or simply how clean or not clean water is. When pollution like trash, oil, and even sediment gets into streams, like the Fall Kill Creek, it can impact the water quality of the stream and have many negative impacts. Join the NCLI crew and Peter Groffman as they explain more about the importance of water quality.
